Good timing — Texas wildflower seed goes in September through November, so you are right in the window.

Heavy but draining is workable. Worth saying plainly: bluebonnet germinates fine in poorly drained clay and then dies, so the drainage is the part that matters, not the texture.

For three acres (130,680 sq ft):

Texas Bluebonnet — the April look. Blooms March–May. Rate is 35 lb/acre, so 3 lb bags × 35 = 105 lb. This is the expensive part; halve it and interplant if budget is tight.
Indian Blanket — picks up in May as the bluebonnets fade, runs to September. Genuinely happy in heavy soil. 10 lb/acre → 30 lb.
Purple Coneflower — June to October, which is your bee coverage after the spring flush. 12 lb/acre → 36 lb.
Lacy Phacelia — one of the strongest bee plants we grow. April–July. 3 lb/acre → 9 lb.

Broadcast onto a firm, weed-free bed and resist burying the seed. Sown too deep is the most common failure we hear about.
